My name is Louise, recovered alcoholic, and my sobriety date is June 30, 1972
As I read your lead this is what came to my mind: page 94 of our text, the Big Book: "Outline the program of action, explaining how you made a self-appraisal, how you straightened out your past and why you are now endeavoring to be helpful to him. It is important for him to realize that your attempt to pass this on to him plays a vital part in your own recovery. Actually he may be helping you more than you are helping him."
That is the story of my recovery. Because of the lack of sober women at my first home group I began sponsoring very early on. My sponsor told me that I only had to stay one page ahead of them. How many times did I read the Big Book with them? We would start at the beginning and read through to page 164 and I would note their name on the page where we had left off. I did this for many years and some stayed sober and some didn't...but I did. My motto was "Give them roots, then give them wings." God bless them all!
