やあ皆さん：アルコホリックの Mark です。今日はお酒を飲まなくていいんだ、と超嬉しくなります。何十年もの間、私はまるでオートマトン/ロボットのように、同じアディクション・ループのバリエーションを繰り返していました。自分の人生や世界の混乱を受け入れないまま、一日をやり過ごしていました。しかし、そのような状況を打破する勇気はなく、ただひたすら己を奮い立たせていました。そして、自分の人生の自動操縦から抜け出すために行動する知恵もありませんでした。
私は２つの祈りを捧げます「助けてください！ありがとう！」かつて私の人生には感謝がありました。なんとか刑務所にも行かず、大きな事故もなく、施設に行ったり、ホームレスになることもありませんでした。私は仕事を持ち、結婚し、素晴らしい女の子を育てました。私は美しい場所に住み、興味深い人々に出会いました。でも、心の中は惨めでした。今日も「助けて」と「ありがとう」が私の基本的な祈りですが、「平安の祈り」の３点の祈りが好きです。 自分の意志や能力では変えられないことを受け入れるようお願いすること、自分の手の届く範囲にあるものに対して行動する勇気を、自分が変えられることと変えられないことを知るための裁量です。
AAに来たのは、助けを求めることの一部でした。皆さんからのサポートと洞察のおかげで、私が24時間最初の一杯を飲まずに済んだことに感謝します。

Hi you all: My name is Mark and I’m an alcoholic. Mighty glad I don’t have to drink alcohol today. For decades I was like an automaton/robot repeating variations of the same addictive loop: muddling through the day, not accepting my lot in life and the mess the world is in, lacking the courage to do much but continue to try to blot out the intolerable situation I found myself in….and definitely missing the wisdom to take action to break free from the automatic pilot my life was on. I had two prayers— Help! And Thank You! There was gratitude in my life. Somehow I had avoided jail, major accidents, institutions, or being homeless. I had a career, a marriage, I helped raise a wonderful young woman. I lived in beautiful places and met interesting people. But inside I was miserable. Today, Help and Thank You are still my basic prayers but I do love the triangulation of the Serenity Prayer: asking to accept what is outside of my agency and ability to change, courage to step up to act on what is within my wheelhouse, and especially some wisdom, discretion to be able to know what I can and can’t change. Coming to AA was part of asking for help, and I’m grateful to having received the support and insight from you all that have allowed me to not pick up that first drink for a few 24s. Onward, Mark
