自分の "欠点" をなくしたいと思わない人はいないでしょう。問題なのは、"欠点 "というのは、自分で欠点だと思う部分だけでなく、自分自身の好きなところや必要だと思うところ、欲しいと思っているところ、それゆえに固執しているところを指すということです。
私にとって、その欠点を捨てる "完全な準備" とは、ステップ1で "無力" を認めることと同じことなのです。それは、自分一人ではできないことを認めて、降伏し、ギブアップすることなのです。

Who wouldn't want to get rid of their "defects"? Well, the problem is that "defects" doesn't just refer to aspects of ourselves that we see as defects but also to things we love about ourselves or think we need or want and therefore cling to.
For me, being "entirely ready" to jettison those defects is much the same as admitting "helplessness" in Step One. It is a surrendering, a giving over, and a recognition that I cannot do this alone.
