として、私の人生を導いてくれた、グレッグ Hのことは、忘れません。グレッグは、キャンディーバーを食べ過ぎて、身長5フィート3インチ・胴回り5フィート3インチで、AAメンバーではない、と話していました。
まず初めに、グレッグは、私の第 4 ステップの「中編小説」の長さを数ページに減らすようにしてくれました。「そこまで悪い人はいない。」と、彼は言っていました。
彼と私は、
12ステップ12ステッププログラム、回復のため原理、AAの基本プログラム。
を念入りにはやりませんでした。私は英語教師だから、１２ステップを理解できるものだ、と彼は考えていたのです。
彼が私に、あるミーティングに行くかを訊いてきた夜のことを忘れません。
「試しに行ってみよう。」と私は答えました。
「試しに？」グレッグは、どなりました。「『試しに』なんていうのは、いんちきな言葉だ。行くか、行かないか、どっちかだ。そんな言葉は、金輪際、使わないでくれ。」
「分かりました。」と、従いました。神に誓って、それ以来、私はその３文字を口にしていません。

Hi, everyone. George, a drunk. Thank you, Nancy, for chairing. I shall always remember Greg H., who introduced life to me as my AA sponsor. Greg told folks he was 5'3" high and 5'3" wide and wasn't a member of AA because he ate too many candy bars.
First, Greg made certain I cut down the length of my fourth step "novella" to a few pages. "Nobody's that bad," he claimed.
He and I didn't go over the twelve steps; Greg assumed I understood them because, "I was a "#$%^&*&^% English teacher."
Also, I shall never forget the night he asked me if I was going to attend a certain meeting.
"I'll try," I said.
"Try?" Greg bellowed. "Try is a B.S. word. Either you're going to do it or you're not. I don't want to hear that word coming out of your mouth ever again."
"Okay," I meekly answered. Lord knows I have hardly uttered that three-letter word since then.
And that's the way it works for me.
