私が住んでいるワウパン（ウィスコンシン州）のあたりでは、長いソーバーを持つある仲間（私は会ったことがありません）が、ミーティングで若い仲間たちにこう忠告していたそうです ――「AAのミーティングは1時間きっかりで終わらなければならない」と。
コロナが我が国を襲った後、ビーバーダム（ウィスコンシン州）のアラノクラブ（訳註：クラブハウス、AAメンバーの交流のための場所）はビーバーダムの政治家たちによって閉鎖されました。そのため、私は地元ワウパンのミーティングに参加せざるを得なくなりました。その政治家たちは、健全な常識に恵まれていたのです。

In Waupun, Wisconsin, where I live, some man with years of sobriety (I never met him) advised the young un's at meetings that an AA meeting had to last one hour, period.
After Covid hit our country, our Alano Club in Beaver Dam was shut down by Beaver Dam politicians. Thus, I was forced to attend meetings here in town. Our politicians are gifted with good common sense.
The first meeting I attended in town, there were four of us. The topic was given and everyone spoke, including me, which was followed by silence as we sat sat and sat and sat and eyeballed one another, the table top, or opposing blank walls.
Finally, I told myself silently, "This is nuts."
I rose and said aloud, "I've been to plenty of meetings in this country when I rode my bike across this wonderful country, and even in Ireland and all of Europe, and never had I attended a meeting that was forced to last one hour. Elsewhere, when everyone has spoken at an AA meeting, and the leader asks if anyone would like to add something and no one speaks up, the meetings are over."
