私は南カリフォルニアのあるつまらない街で新しい仕事を見つけ、気分が良くありませんでした。知ってる人もいないし、道も全く分からない中、自分にとって必要なミーティングを探しました。私は (コンピュータやGoogle Mapが無かった頃に) 自分で描いた地図に従って進み、思いもよらぬ場所にたどり着きました。大きな敷地にある大きな収納コンパートメントのような場所でした。そこは解放されていて、2つの椅子が用意され、2人の老人がおしゃべりしていました。私が近づくと、お互いをよく知っているらしいその2人の間の、少し荒っぽくて仲の良い、男らしい会話が聞こえました。AAの内容については一言もありませんでした。私はこのあたりでAAミーティングが開かれている可能性がある場所を知っているか尋ねました。彼らはすぐに、（これが）AAのミーティングだと言いました。私は、自分もそれが必要なのですと言いました。すぐに3つ目の椅子が用意され、大きな笑い声や彼らの悪態は、ミーティングの序文と、良き分かち合いに変わりました。予測もしていなかったことですが、それが回復の経験と力と希望や、今日一日の

が来たり分かち合いを始めると、満足が行くのです。シラフで生きるために、仲間がAAの原理や霊的な行いについて分かち合いをする時に、パーソナリティ（個人）は消え去るのです。
AAは奇跡的であり、奇跡を生み出します。私たちがその証拠です。

Thank you, George. What a story - I'm glad you were put back together again.
I got a new job in a lousy city in southern California, and I was not feeling great. Not knowing anyone or any streets, I searched for a meeting I knew I needed. I followed a map I had drawn (before computers and google maps and...) and found myself in an unlikely place - looked like big storage compartments on a big lot. One was open and 2 chairs were set up, with 2 old men chatting. I approached and heard some rough, chumy and male bonding kinda talk between two people who obviously knew each other well. Not a syllable of AA content. I asked if they knew where a meeting might be happening on this lot. They immediately said they were an AA meeting, and I said I needed one. Quickly a 3rd chair appeared, and the guffaws and swearing turned into the preamble and some good shares. I wouldn't have predicted it, and I will always be grateful for what turned into a good meeting, sharing experience, strength and the hope of recovery and another day of sobriety.
Over the years, I have seen this many times. People arguing or gossiping or fooling around before or during a meeting - being complacent, then a newcomer walks in or begins sharing. Personalities disappear, as people share principles and spiritual exercises to live a sober life.
AA is miraculous and miracle- making. We are the proof.
