何年も前に性格診断テスト（訳註：棚卸しのことか？）を受けたことがあり、その結果として、私がどのように物事をこなし、情報を処理するかを評価された上で、祈りの言葉も一緒にもらいました。その祈りは、「どうか、今回だけでいいので、提案に従わせてください！」というものでした。少しユーモアを交えたものでしたが、確かに的を射ていると感じました。
酒を飲むことが効かなくなり、どん底に落ちたとき、私は治療を受けるために施設に送られることになりました。6週間、日常生活から離れて「スピン・ドライ（訳註：体や心をアルコールやその影響から "乾かす" または "洗い流す" 解毒期間のこと）」状態になったことが、私に必要だった一時停止を与えてくれ、人生で初めて提案に従い始めることができました。その中でも「飲まないこと」が最優先であり、それは今でも変わりません。ミーティングの終わりに、司会が「AAに関連したお知らせはありますか？」と尋ねると、私はよく「飲まないでください」と言います。それは、

Hi everyone. My name is Dave and I am an alcoholic. Thanks for the great topic and for your example of working the program all these years. Welcome to all and congrats to AA (and HP!) for any milestones we celebrate this week. THE PROGRAM WORKS!!
I took one of those personality inventory tests many years ago and along with the assessment of how I function and process information, they gave me a prayer based on that. My prayer was “Please let me follow directions just this one!” It was meant as a little tongue in cheek, but it certainly rung true.
When drinking quit working and I hit bottom, I ended up being sent to treatment. Getting taken out of my routine for 6 weeks and getting “spun dry” gave me the pause I needed, and for once in my life I began following directions. Not drinking was first among them, and it remains so today. At the end of meetings here when the chair asks if there are any AA-related announcements, I often say, “Don’t drink.” It’s important for me to remember that repeated application of the 12 Steps have changed me in ways I could never have imagined . . . But it all begins with Step 1.
