Hi, everyone. My name is Dave and I am an alcoholic. Thank you for the illuminating topic, Louise, and for your steadfast example of recovery in AA. Thanks, also, for the gift of your friendship for all these years. Welcome to all and congrats to AA (and HP!) for any milestones we celebrate this week. The program works!
You all (and others like you in church basements across the globe) showed me how to take the 12 Steps and live them to recover. Through example, you showed me that anonymity was the essential foundation of humility and all our Traditions. By inviting me to get involved in service and support to AA, you further showed me, as Louise put it, freedoms to serve is truly the freedom by which I live. Had I not been an alcoholic, I never would have found the God of my understanding. As an old sponsor used to say, I thank God for AA . . . and I thank AA for God. My way of life, my happiness, and my sense of purpose all came from our program.
