今週末に記念日を迎えますが、感謝の気持ちでいっぱいです。私は20歳のときにAAに来て、それほどの経験や資格も無く、なんとかここに留まることができました。これは私にとって、自分では出来ないことを神が私のためにしてくださった証拠なのです。
何年もかけてはっきりしたのは、AAはスピリチュアルな問題を扱いながらも、極めて実践的だということです。私は、とりわけステップをこなすことに関しては、自分の「意見」よりも自分の「経験」を分かち合い、他の仲間の経験に耳を傾けるように教わりました。私は芝居がかった不適合者だったので、私はAAに適応・馴染むという、自分にとっては死ねと言われるようなことを、学ばなければなりませんでした。私が学んだのは、私は以前と変わらずおかしな自分でありながらも、AAの回復の原理に基づいた提案を受けることができるということでした。今ではあまり言われなくなりましたが、新人の頃は確かに腹立たしかったです -- 「耳から綿を出して口に入れる」こと（口をつぐんで耳を傾けるということ？）を覚えました。

Hi everyone, my name is Laura and I am an alcoholic. Thank you Lin for asking me to chair.
My anniversary is later this week and I am full of gratitude. I got here when I was twenty and managed to stay here with no further experimentation or qualification. This, to me, is evidence of God doing for me what I cannot do for myself.
What has become so clear to me over the years is that AA is intensely practical, even as it deals in spiritual matters. I was taught to share my experience, rather than my opinions, and to listen to other people's experience, particularly in regard to working the Steps. I had to learn to conform to AA, which sounded like death to me when I got here, because I was theatrically nonconformist. What I learned was that I could still be my own weirdo self AND take suggestions which are grounded in AA's principles of recovery. I don't hear it said much any more and I sure resented it when I was new -- I learned to take the cotton out of my ears and put it in my mouth.
So the topic this week is that I would like to hear about the ways that AA has been of practical use in your life, the suggestions you've taken and how they have worked. Because it works when you work it!
