その後1年以上、自分の欠点に嫌気がさし、その欠点と格闘するうちに、電球が点灯（するような気づきがあり）して、酒を飲むこと以上に、自己とそのさまざまな現れから解放されることはないと悟ったのです。そのことによって、私は神が自分の欠点を取り除き、それを委ねられるほどに謙虚になりました。神様が担当することで、事態は好転したのです。

After my 5th step I went home and took steps 6 & 7....or so I thought. I spent the next year+ getting disgusted with my defects and wrestling with them until the light bulb came on and I realized I could no more get rid of self and its various manifestations than I could my drinking. By then I was sweet willing to be rid of my defects and humble enough to surrender them to God. With God in charge, things have gotten better.
