初めて「AA」というミステリアスな場所に行く決心をしたとき......正直なところ、何がなんだかわかりませんでした。実際のところ、私は自分のような絶望的な酔っぱらいが、同じような拷問を受けた魂を見つけることができる、惨めな人たちのクラブだと思っていました。そこに解決の糸口があるかもしれないとは思っていませんでした。だから、私はたくさんの疑問を持ってやって来ました！AAって何？彼らは私に何を期待し何を要求するのだろう？年間契約しなければならないのか？彼らにはどんな下心があるのだろう？私がこれまでの人生でずっと抱いてきた、いつもの皮肉な態度でした。

Hi Friends,
Congratulations, Carl... what a beautiful sobriety milestone. I'm grateful for you and all the others who arrived before I did and worked to keep this miracle going. What a gift!
I like this topic... and something did come to mind immediately... the Preamble*!
When I first made the decision to go to this mysterious place called "AA"... I honestly had no idea what it was about. In fact, I think my assumption was that it was just a miserable people's club where all the hopeless drunks like myself could find like-tortured souls. I didn't have a clue there might actually be a solution there. So, I arrived with questions... lots of them! What was AA? What would they expect, demand from me? Would I have to sign up for a year? What was their ulterior motive? The usual, cynical attitudes I'd carried with me all my life.
So.... I was stunned! Right at the start of that first meeting as the Preamble was read, many of my questions were answered. It was reassuring.. and I can't explain why I believed you, but I did. I still remember that when I'm paying attention when it's read at the start of every meeting.
