Thank you, George, for chairing this week and also for being part of my own sober life, especially in ESH. When our friendship began you had just become a grandfather and now you are a great-grandfather! Amazing!
My name is Louise, recovered alcoholic, and my sobriety date is June 30, 1972
There are two stories which have had great effect on my sobriety: 1) The Keys of the Kingdom and 2) Freedom from Bondage. In that first story, the author tells me that "A.A. is not a plan for recovery that can be finished and done with. It is a way of life, and the challenge contained in its principles is great enough to keep any human being striving for as long as he lives. We do not, cannot, out-grow this plan."In the second story, I learned that "The only real freedom a human being can ever know is doing what you ought to do because you want to do it." In the same way as the author of this story, I found out that this way of life is not only what I needed, but it was just what I wanted all the time".Being a member of A.A. is much more than "just don't drink and go to meetings" for me...it is being willing to grow along spiritual lines and to practice these principles in all my affairs (as best as I can, one day at a time).
