My name is Louise, recovered alcoholic, and my sobriety date is June 30, 1972
As I read this week's topic, what came to mind, was a prayer that I say every day:
What some of us call: The Third Step Prayer. "God, I offer myself to Thee-to build with
me and do with me as Thou wilt. Relieve me o the bondage of self, that I may better do
Thy will. Take away my difficulties that victory over them may bear witness to those I
would help of Thy Power, Thy Love, and Thy Way of life. May I do Thy will always!"
Incredible that my alcoholism turned into such a blessing. That such a stubborn and
unruly person as I was, surrendered and embraced the program of Alcoholics Anonymous
is indeed miraculous. It took quite a while of going to meetings and not drinking in between,
before I came to believe that in Step Two, God could and would restore me to some semblance
of sanity. Then I was at Step Three and my sponsor made me repeat that Prayer every night
when I was unable to sleep...it worked then and it still works today.
