皆さんこんにちは、酔っ払いのジョージです。スアン、今週のの司会に選んでくれてありがとう。

私の3人目のは、毎朝祈りと黙想をするように私に「命じ」ました。いつもより45分早く起きるようにと言われ、それは午前4時15分でした。まったく嬉しくはなかったですが、提案に従いました。

AAの仲間がよく「祈りは神と話すこと、黙想は神の声を聞くことだ」と言うのを聞いたことがあります。その言葉を聞くたびに、私は共感します。

若い頃、私はカトリック系の学校に通い、毎日祈っていました。 高校時代にはカプチン会（訳註・修道会の一派）の神学校に通ったこともありましたが、司祭の道は自分には向いていませんでした。

18歳の水兵だった私は、日曜日の朝に空母USSホーネットの格納庫で行われるミサに参加するのを楽しんでいました。 その後、サンディエゴの学校に派遣され、さらに続いて日本の府中にある空軍基地で、極東司令部・統合軍本部に配属されました。

そこから、私は南ベトナムのフエ市に6か月間派遣され、米軍顧問団（U.S. Military Assistance Advisory Group）の一員として勤務しました。その後、統合司令部に戻りましたが、まもなく再びフエ市へ派遣されました。 その頃には、もうミサにも行かず、祈りもしなくなっていました。特に理由はなく、ただそうなったのです。

その何年か後、私は刑務所の暴動で人質に取られるという経験をしました。その後、AAにつながり、の提案に従い、毎朝祈りと黙想を実践するようになりました。それは、のランダムなページと、AAが承認した他の3冊の書籍を読むことから始まりました。私はもはや宗教的な基盤からではなく、霊的な基盤から祈るようになりました。私のは、黙想中に肩を叩いてその日の提案を囁いてくれるわけではありません。しかし、それらは突然私の心に浮かび、私は何をすべきかを自然と理解するのです！

今週のテーマとして、皆さんの祈りと黙想に関する個人的な体験、そしてそれが自身のにとってどのような意味を持つのかを分かち合ってください。もし祈りや黙想を実践していなかったり、このテーマについて書きたくない場合は、どんなAAのテーマでも構いません。とにかく書いてください！

WELCOME TO THE ESH WEEKLY MEETING

The structure of an ESH meeting is that the chairperson selects a topic for the week and anyone in the group has the option to share on that topic. In order to keep the postings to a minimum for the entire group, we suggest that personal messages be sent directly to that person and not via the Group.

Comments should be closely related to recovery from alcoholism. "The ESH meeting will begin no earlier than Sunday morning anytime after midnight EST and members are requested to post their shares no later than the following Saturday night at 11:59 PM EST."

All members are encouraged to share their A.A. anniversary on their annual sobriety date. Tell the group what your life was like before AA, what happened, and what it's like today.

Hi, everyone. George, a drunk. Thank you, Suanne, for scheduling me to be this week’s ESH leader.

My third sponsor “ordered” me to pray and meditate each morning, waking 45 minutes earlier than usual. That meant 4:15 a.m. I was not at all happy, but I followed orders.

I have often heard differing AA members say, “Prayer is talking to God; meditation is listening to him.” I like it each time I hear it.

In my youth, I attended Catholic schools and prayed every day. I even attended a Capuchin Seminary for a time in high school, but priesthood wasn’t for me.

As an 18-year-old sailor, I enjoyed attending mass Sunday mornings in the hanger bay of the aircraft carrier, the USS Hornet. I was next sent to school in San Diego, followed by an assignment to Headquarters, Joint Armed Services, Far East Command, at the Air Force station in Fuchu, Japan.

From there, I was sent to Hue City, South Vietnam, for six months with a U.S. Military Assistance Advisory Group and returned to Joint Headquarters, only to be sent back to Hue City, shortly thereafter. I no longer attended mass or prayed. No reason. Just happened.

Many years later, after being held hostage in a prison riot, I joined AA and followed my sponsor’s orders, praying and meditating each morning by reading a random page of the Big Book plus three other AA-approved books. No longer did I pray from a religious foundation but from a spiritual basis, instead. My higher power doesn’t tap me on the shoulder and whisper the day’s orders during meditation; they just suddenly appear in my mind, and I know what to do!

For this week’s topic, please relate your personal experiences with prayer and meditation and what they mean for your sobriety. If you don’t pray and meditate, or don’t wish to write about my chosen topic, write about any AA topic you desire. But write!
