I'm an alcoholic named Lisa. Happy 38th Anniversary Lin! What a miracle you are!! I was taught early on to never say no to AA. I haven't done that perfectly, but it is my general rule of thumb. As a result, I have found myself serving Alcoholics Anonymous at all levels of General Service with the exception of the General Service Board. I have also ended up carrying the message to institutions and prisons, including a time where I carried the message to a Maxi-max prison in NY, where the prison was shut down afterwards to all visitors from the outside. It was a prison where the worst of the worst are incarcerated, and some of them are alcoholics. I've used the Steps and prayer to learn how to fit myself to be of maximum service. Today, being of maximum service is an attitude of looking for how I can be part of the solution in all areas of my life, how can I be of service, without regard to compensation. When I don't worry about what am I going to get out of something, opportunities come my way, and I receive just what I need. This attitude is the best cure I know for self-pity and the bedevilments.
