My name is Louise,recovered alcoholic, and my sobriety date is June, 30, 1972
The longer that I didn't drink and kept attending meetings, the more I learned about my disease of alcoholism. Yes, I chose to drink when I first started out, but once I crossed that deadly line into my addiction, I lost that power of choice. It was surprising to hear that it was that first drink that got me drunk. That it was only that first drink I had to give up...just for that day. I liked the simplicity of A.A....simple but not a member shared, the others listened. I was amazed at how civilized most meetings were.Not drinking alcohol changed my whole life...eventually I was able to apply the principles of Alcoholics Anonymous in all my affairs (not perfectly, mind you) but now I had developed a conscience, and I could tell when I was wrong and could become willing to change my ways. I will never be done as I also accepted that once an alcoholic, always an alcoholic...my #1 sponsor's last words to me were: Keep The Faith, and that is what I keep doing...one day at a time.
