初めて、第９ステップの約束が読まれるのを聴いたとき、涙が頬を伝いました。私が何を望んで必要としているかを、皆さんには分かっているなんて、信じられませんでした。それだけでなく、私には言葉にできなかったことを、他の誰かが言葉にすることができたのです。私は、今でもその言葉が読まれるのを聴くのが好きです。その後、私たちの文献には、他にも多くの約束があるのを知りました。
飲んだくれているとき、私は多くの約束をしました。それは、憶えていて、都合が良ければ、実行するというものでした。「約束」というものの本当の意味が分かりませんでした。今では、その言葉を理解し、大切に受け止めています。

のころの私は、その部分を何度も何度も繰り返し読みました。今でも、事がうまくいいかないときや、行き詰まったときは、その文言に頼ります。そこには、なんともすばらしい希望という贈り物が、あるのです。
今朝、私は、最善を尽くして、感謝の言葉にしました。酒を必要としない生き方という贈り物・仲間とのフェローシップが、今や２８年もの間、私の人生に解決をもたらしてくれたことに。

Hi All, my name is Laurie and I am an alcoholic. Thanks, Dorothy, for a great topic this week.
The first time I heard the 9th step promises read, tears rolled down my cheeks. I couldn't believe that you guys knew what I wanted and needed. Not only that, someone had been able to put in words that which I could not. I still love to hear them read and later learned that there are many other promises in our literature.
When I was drinking, I made lots of promises. That meant I would try to do what I said, if I remembered it and if it was convenient. I had no idea what "promise" really meant. Today I understand the word and take it seriously.
My favorite?
There is a solution. Big Book, Page 25 (3rd edition). I read that line over and over again when I was new. I still turn to it when things are going rough or I'm feeling stuck. What an incredible gift of hope it contains!
This morning, I did my best to put into words my thanks to my Higher Power for the gift of sobriety and this fellowship which has provided a solution in my life now for 28 years.
