Hi, everyone. My name is Dave and I am an alcoholic. Thanks for an uplifting topic and your steady presence here in ESH, Dorothy. Welcome to all and congrats to AA (and HP!) for any milestones we celebrate this week. The program works!
I love the Promises from pages 83 - 84 references by Dorothy. They gave me hope when I frat heard them and PROOF that the program works when they began to come true for me.
But my favorite promise from the Big Book comes in our 12th Step — “Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, . . . “. That is the promise that taking the preceding 11 steps (as numbered!), will cause me to have a spiritual awakening. It worked! I have and continue to have a spiritual awakening. I’m pretty sure that this awakening, the God consciousness, enables all those other promises for me because I have (most of the time) stopped relying on me and instead rely on my Higher Power. I do my best to cooperate with God and to do my part (be grateful and be of service) and leave the results up to HP. I don’t do any of this perfectly — but it is my desire and my intention every day.
