「シラフ（SOBER）」—この言葉はあなたにとってどんな意味を持ちますか？
辞書によると、「sober」とは、厳粛で落ち着いた、地味で静かな、あまり鮮やかでない色、そして…飲酒していない、またはアルコールの影響を受けていない人を指すそうです
私は自分の人生の中で、厳粛で落ち着いたり、地味で静かでいた時間はあまりなかったと思います。鮮やかな色ではないので、その点では1ポイントもらえそうですね。でも、私はアルコールの影響を「大いに」受けています！ しかし、今日は飲んでいません！

今日は公園を散歩していたら雨が降り始めました。帰りにガソリンを入れて、軽く何か食べるものを買う必要がありました。くたくたに疲れてびしょ濡れで、不機嫌なうえに足元もおぼつかない状態でコンビニに入りました。すると、カウンターの向こう側にいた店員が、私をじっと見ているのに気がつきました。ポテトチップスの棚のある通路を歩いていたのですが、反対側には酒類が置かれていました。まだ午前11時だったのですが、彼はきっと私が酔っ払っていて、さらに酒を探していると思ったのでしょう。
昔の私は、まさにそんなふうに見えていたことを思い出しました。なぜなら、本当に酔っ払っていたからです！でも、今日の私はどれだけ「素晴らしく、感謝に満ち、そして興奮した」気持ちになったことでしょう！見た目はどうあれ、私はシラフでした！たとえ地味だったとしても、それでいいんです！もう交通違反の心配をしたり、人前で恥をかいたり、自分の振る舞いについて陰で噂されることを気にする必要もありません。何よりも、孫たちと一緒に過ごす時間を持てることが最高です。これこそ、お酒を飲まず、シラフでいることの大きなメリットですね。
私が努力を続けることで、

WELCOME TO THE ESH WEEKLY MEETING
The structure of an ESH meeting is that the chairperson selects a topic for the week and anyone in the group has the option to share on that topic. In order to keep the postings to a minimum for the entire group, we suggest that personal messages be sent directly to that person and not via the Group.
Comments should be closely related to recovery from alcoholism. "The ESH meeting will begin no earlier than Sunday morning anytime after midnight EST and members are requested to post their shares no later than the following Saturday night at 11:59 PM EST."
All members are encouraged to share their A.A. anniversary on their annual sobriety date. Tell the group what your life was like before AA, what happened, and what it's like today.

SOBER Just exactly what does that word mean to YOU?
My dictionary says sober means somber and calm, dull and quiet, not a very bright color, and... one who is not drinking or affected by alcohol.
I don't think I've spent much time of my life being somber, calm, dull, or quiet. I'm not a very bright color, so I'll get one point there. I'm VERY MUCH affected by alcohol! But I'm not drinking today!

Today I went walking at the park and it started raining. I had to get some gasoline and a snack on the way home. I walked in the convenience store exhausted, soaking wet, grumpy, and unsteady on my feet. I noticed the guy behind the counter eyeing me as I went down the aisle that had potato chips on one side. Turns out the liquor was on the opposite side. It was 11 in the morning and I guess he thought I was loaded and looking for more alcohol.
I flashed on the times in the past that I probably looked just that way, because I was drunk! Do you know how WONDERFUL, GRATEFUL, AND EXCITED I felt today? Maybe I didn't look the part but, I was sober! I might be dull, but I'll take it! I don't worry about getting traffic tickets, embarrassing myself in public, or having people talk about the way I act. Best of all, I get to spend time with my grandkids. Those are definitely advantages of not drinking alcohol and being sober.
By me doing the work, my Higher Power has given me the greatest gift imaginable - SOBRIETY! It's only One Day at a Time, but I think I'll keep working this AA program.
