ソーバーをどのように感じますか？ 私にとってソーバーとは、ほとんどの時間、満たされていて、自由で、心身ともに健やかである という感覚です。
ソーバーと「ドライ」はどう違うのか？ 私にとって「ドライ」とは、飲酒こそしていないものの、ソーバーとは正反対の状態 です。私は何度も「ドライ」の状態の仲間を見てきましたが、自分自身がその状態を経験せずにいられたことに感謝しています。「ドライ」であることは、苛立ち、不安定、不満、否認 といった要素を伴うように見えます。そのため、多くの人が「ドライ」を 「飲酒をしていないだけの未治療の

」 と呼びます。「ドライ」にならないよう注意するべきだと私は思います。なぜなら、それは とても惨めな生き方 だからです。霊的な成長と健全さを追求することが、「ドライ」にならないための予防策となります。
どのようにしてソーバーを保つのか？ 私は、神と他の人に最大限の奉仕ができるよう努めることでソーバーを保ちます。また、神を求め続け、

Thanks, Nancy, for chairing this week, and for your example and topic. Congratulations to anyone else celebrating a sobriety milestone this week! Welcome to anyone new to ESH!
Topic: Just exactly what does that word mean to YOU?
Dominic recovered alcoholic. Sober to me means sound, in the sense of mind, body, and spirit. I love Chuck C.’s definition of sobriety in his book “A New Pair of Glasses” as well: “the ability to live comfortably, peacefully, and joyously with me.” I would add and with others.” Sober to me is not just abstinence from drinking. That is only physically sober. I ‘m not minimizing physical sobriety, as it is a necessity to be sober; yet it is 1/3 of what sober means to me today. Chuck C. definition resonates with me because although I’ve gained his definition, it would never have happened without addressing the 3-legged stool of my alcoholism: physical, mental, spiritual through the 12-steps.
Continuing to practice the 12-step principles enable me to sustain being sober one-day-at-a-time.
How does sober look? Sober looks well-put-together. With qualities of honesty, integrity, accountability, responsibility, courage, trustworthy, kindness, and self-control.
How does sober feel? Sober for me most of the time feels content, free, with a good sense of wellbeing.
How is sober different from "dry?" Dry, to me is the opposite of sober, without taking a drink. I’ve observed dry many times and am thankful I’ve not experienced it. Dry seems to come with measures of irritability, restlessness, discontent, and denial. This is one reason why many of us call “dry” untreated alcoholism without taking a drink. In my view, we should guard against becoming dry, for it is a miserable way to live. Pursuing spiritual fitness and growth inoculates us with safeguards from becoming dry.
How do you stay sober? By making myself available to strive to be of maximum service to God and others; to continue to seek God, grow spiritually through continuing to practice the 12-steps, to stay connected to others through fellowship, and to stay fit, physically, mentally, & spiritually.
How much is sobriety worth to you? Without sobriety I would have nothing!
