私の子どもたちはいつも私を支えてくれましたし、孫たちは私がお酒を飲む姿を一度も見たことがありません。ある孫が引き出しをあさって、私のAAのメダルを見つけたとき、私はそれが何なのかを彼女に説明しました。彼女は今でもその日を覚えていて、22歳になった今もお酒を飲むことに対してとても慎重です。

I'm Nancy and I'm alcoholic.
I quit drinking, and fortunately, never went back. The 12-steps (especially the 3rd step), meetings, people in AA, and my support from non-AA friends have kept me sober.
Some of Diane's story sounds like mine! I quit drinking and sat my kids, ages 8 &10, down and told them I'd be going to meetings some nights and why. Their dad took them to do fun stuff every time I wasn't around. Then 6 months into my sobriety he left and filled for divorce because I was alcoholic. (And he moved in with his lady friend.)
My kids have always been supportive, and my grands have never seen me drink. One of them was digging through my drawer, found my medallions, and I explained to her what they were. She still remembers that day - she's 22 and very cautious about drinking.
