Hi everyone, my name is Pam and I am an alcoholic. Thank you for this week’s topic.
What I saw was a calm, peaceful demeanor. An aura. I didn’t understand what I was observing. I was a counselor. People got court-ordered to our counseling center as a result of DWIs or other substance-related legal problems. Or they came on their own for a variety of reasons. Some of them were members of AA.
I remember making the connection to that aura and my clients who were AA members. I was still actively drinking (and imbibing in other things) with my fellow counselors. And many probation and parole officers we worked with. Despite that, I noticed a certain peace and that aura in my clients who actively participated in AA.
Years later when I was ready to stop and stay stopped, I remembered from where the peace came. I wanted it. I found it in my first meetings of AA. I was ready and willing to take the steps that were suggested. I would do anything for that calm.
