リック、今週も話を始めてくれてありがとう。私の最初の一杯は、母が私を怒らせたことが理由だと当時は思っていました。アルコールがその怒りをなだめてくれたのだと。
二杯目は、大学生が集まってパーティーをしていたタウンハウス（※）で飲みました。そこで私はすっかり周りに溶け込めたんです。当時の私はとても怒りっぽい子どもで、飲むことで世の中にうまく馴染めるような気がしていました。
でも、やがてそれは効かなくなり、逆効果になりました。17歳で家を出てからも酒と薬物を続けましたが、もう何かを親のせいにしたり、誰かのせいにしたりはできませんでした。アルコールこそが私の唯一の対処方法だったのです。
私は酩酊と自己中心性のバブルの中で生きていました。それしか生き方を知りませんでした。そして、私は本格的に具合が悪くなっていきました。

を理解し、ステップをやり始めるまでには時間がかかりました。プライドが邪魔をして、自分がアルコールに無力であること、人生が手に負えなくなっていることを認められませんでした。でも、やっとそれを認めることができたのです。
私は自分の
ハイヤーパワー（HP=ハイヤーパワー）神、または高次の力、自分を超えた大きな力。意志と生き方をゆだねる対象。
の「居場所」を見つけました。必要なとき、あるいは日々の中で、人生を委ねて助けを求められる、そんな存在です。以前の私には絶対にできなかったことです。本当にほっとしました。
AA は私に新しい人生を与えてくれました。私にとっては、このようにして回復が働いてくれたのです。

Thanks. Rick for getting us started this week. I remember my first drink was because of my mother supposedly because she got me angry in the alcohol soothed me. My second drink was down at that townhouse is where all the college kids were partying, and so I fit right in. I guess I was a pretty angry kid and drinking made me fit in with the rest of the world. Until it didn't it backfired on me. Once I was seventeen and out of the house, I continued to drink and drug. But then I didn't have my parents to blame things on or anyone else. Alcohol was my coping mechanism. I was living in a bubble of inebriation and self centeredness. That was the life I knew how to live. Then I started to get sick. It took a while till I got this program and started working the steps. My pride kept me from admitting that I was powerless over alcohol, or that my life was unmanageable. But thank god I finally did. I found a higher power home. I could turn my life over to in times of need or every day and ask for help something I never could do before. What a relief. AA has given me a new life and that's how it works for me.
