Hi, everyone. My name is Dave and I am an alcoholic. Thanks for a great topic and lead, Mark. Welcome to all and congrats to AA (and HP!) for any milestones we celebrate this week. The program works!
My long-time sponsor, Hugh xxxx, always said “We can do what I can’t.” He used to print up cards with that written in red and black gothic text. He gave me many of them over the 25 years he sponsored me — and I always found someone who needed the one I was carrying more than I did.
We can stay sober. Alone, I don’t stand a chance. We can find answers to my challenges today. I can’t fix my problems with the brain that caused them. We can laugh together. Alone, I’m more apt to cry — and not the cleansing kind of tears but the ones borne of self pity. We can find a power greater than ourselves. I’m just as likely to think I AM that power.
The simple truth is that I need Alcoholics Anonymous to stay sober and to have a chance to live a life of value and purpose. Alcoholics Anonymous does not need me to function.
