の今週のミーティングへようこそ。

ミーティングの構成は、司会者がその週のトピックを選び、グループの誰もがそのトピックについて分かち合ったり、あるいはトピックの代わりに、その月に対応するステップや伝統についてシェアすることができます。例えば、11月にはステップ11や伝統11についてシェアすることができます。より多くの仲間の参加を促すことを目的として、最近このように変更しました。

はメールを用いたグループであるため、シェアする人は、他の形式のミーティングで見られるような笑顔やうなずく姿が見えません。私たちの中には、メールで返事を送ることでその共感や賛同を伝える人もいます。しかし、グループ全体への投稿を最小限に抑えるために、個人的なメッセージはグループを通さず、直接その人に送るようお願いしています。

のミーティングは日曜日の未明早朝以降（米国東部標準時）に始まり、次の土曜日の午後11時59分まで、メンバーは分かち合いを行うことが出来ます。全メンバーは、ご自身のAA記念日である・デートに分かち合いを行うことが推奨されています。AA以前の生活がどうだったか。何が起こって、現在はどうなっているかを、グループの仲間に教えてください。

の仲間の皆さん、こんにちは。アルコホーリクのチャックです。今週、グループのをさせてくれたスアンに感謝します。また、今週バースデーを迎える皆さんにもお祝いを申し上げます。AAでのがあると、人生は確かにより良くなります。本当にその通りだと思います。

最近、いくつかのミーティングであるトピック（テーマ）を考えていましたが、どう提示すべきか、それが適切かどうか、あるいはまったく受け入れられないかを心配していました。もし受け入れられなくても、それはそれで仕方ありません。

私が選んだトピックは、「アルコホーリクス・アノニマス（）」に関するものです。特に、最近導入された「プレーン・ランゲージ版（PL）」についてです。もしご存じなければ、この本はAA公認の文献で、約1年前に出版されました。目的は、1939年のオリジナルと同じAAの回復を、現代の言葉や表現に合わせて表現することです。私は数か月前に1冊入手し、パラパラとめくったり、目を通したり、ちらりと見たりしました。そしてこれから本格的に学び始めたいと思っています。実際、（ウィスコンシン州の）アップルトンやグリーンベイにはPLのミーティングがありますが、それらは日中に開催されています。残念ながら私はまだ日中は仕事があります。ニューヨーク州ロングアイランドでZoomミーティングを見つけましたが、私のであるシャーウッドのミーティングと時間が重なっています。そこで、しばらくの間シャーウッドのグループをお休みして、他のAAミーティングでこの本について議論し学びたいと思っています。

私はの研究者ではなく、その他の文献の専門家でもありません。熱心な読書家でもありません。（どちらかと言えばオーディオブック派です。）はほとんど全部読んだと言えますが、断片的に、主に断続的な勉強会で読んだもので、順序通りに一気に読んだわけではありません。これまでのところ、良い悪いにかかわらず、（に対する）批判をあまり聞いたことはありません。すでに自分の確たる意見を持っている人もいるでしょうし、第一版が書かれたとき、初期メンバーの間で論争があったように、おそらく他の版でも同様だったのでしょう。私は1987年夏に初めてミーティングに行ったとき、第3版のを渡されました。今でも持っていて、少し擦れており、メモや下線もありますが、大切にしています。それは私の歴史の一部です。2001年に第4版が出たとき、受容に関する章(個人の物語 "Acceptance was the Answer" ) が449ページではなく417ページになっていることを知り、少し驚きました。でも、すぐに気にしなくなりました。また、第1版と第2版の個人の物語を読むポッドキャストも購読しています。

この新しい出版物 (PL) に対する私の意見は、しばらく他の仲間たちと一緒に学んでから述べようと考えています。私は文学的な観点というよりも、歴史への愛情の観点からこの本に向き合っています。私たちがどこから来て、どうやって今の場所に至ったのかを見るのが好きで、私にとってこの本もまた歴史的な資料のひとつです。1930年代、AAが成長し変化しながら自らを確立し、当時それを求めた人々に対応していた様子に興味があります。AAは今、この世代の病める人々や苦しむ人々に対応するため、同じことを行っているのだと思います。

それで…皆さんは「プレーン・ランゲージ版」についてどう思いますか？あるいは、他の版の『アルコホーリクス・アノニマス』についてはどうでしょうか？まったく経験や興味がない場合は、回復にとってより関係の深い別のテーマについて自由に話してください。発言していただいて構いません。

WELCOME TO THE ESH WEEKLY MEETING

The structure of an ESH meeting is that the chairperson selects a topic for the week and anyone in the group has the option to share on that topic or as an alternative, a member may share on the step or tradition correlating to the month of the year. For example, in November you may share on Step 11 or Tradition 11. This is a recent change we hope will encourage more participation.

Since ESH is an email-based group, a person who shares does not see the smile or nodding head that he/she does in other meeting formats. Some of us provide that validation through an email response. In order to keep the postings to a minimum for the entire group, we do request that personal messages be sent directly to that person and not via the Group.

The ESH meeting will begin no earlier than Sunday morning anytime after midnight EST and members are requested to post their shares no later than the following Saturday night at 11:59 PM EST. All members are encouraged to share their A.A. anniversary on their annual sobriety date. Tell the group what your life was like before AA, what happened, and what it's like today.

Hello ESH friends I'm an alcoholic and I'm Chuck. Thank you Suanne for letting me serve the group this week. And Congratulations to those celebrating milestones this week too. Life certainly is better with sobriety in AA.

I've been toying with certain topics at several meetings lately, but concerned on how to present them, or if they would be appropriate, or if they would go over like a lead balloon. If that's the case, so be it.

My chosen topic is about the Big Book Alcoholics Anonymous. In particular, the recently introduced Plain Language Big Book. If you are not familiar with it, this book is approved AA literature, published about a year ago with the purpose of expressing the exact same AA program of recovery as in the 1939 original, but in language and idioms more in tune with present day usage. I obtained a copy a few months ago and I have flipped through it, perused it, glanced at it, and would like to begin studying it. Indeed, there are PLBB meeting in Appleton and Green Bay, but they are during the daytime. Unfortunately I still have a day job. I have found one on Zoom in Long Island, NY, but it is scheduled at the same time as my home group here in Sherwood. My plan is to blow off the Sherwood Group for a while because I really want to discuss and learn about this book with other AAs.

I am no Big Book scholar, nor of any other literature. I am not an avid hard core reader. (More of an audiobook guy). I can say I have read practically the entire Big Book, but only in bits and pieces, mostly at intermittent Big Book Study groups, not in order in one fell swoop. As of yet I have not heard a whole lot of criticism of it, good or bad. I imagine that there are those with their hardened opinions already, just as there was controversy among early members when the first book was written, and probably the other editions as well. I was given a 3rd edition book when I went to my first meeting in the summer of 1987. I still have it, a bit worn, some notes and highlights, and I do treasure it. It is part of MY history. When the 4th edition came out in 2001, I was somewhat disturbed to learn that the piece on Acceptance now lived on page 417, not 449. What the F***?! Well I got over that. I also subscribe to podcasts that read stories from the first and second editions.

I am saving my opinion of this new publication for when I have studied it for a while with other people, and I am approaching this more from a love of history standpoint than literary. I love to see where we came from and how we got to where we are, and to me this book is another historical artifact. I am interested in how AA was growing and changing in the 1930s to establish itself and accommodate those who wanted it then, AA is doing the same now for this generation of sick and suffering.

So... what is your take on the Plain Language Big Book? Or an any other edition of Alcoholics Anonymous? If you have no experience or interest in it at all, feel free to share on another issue that is more pertinent to your recovery. The floor is open.
