AA に来たばかりの頃のことを思い出しますが、正直に言って、

の言葉のいくつかには、かなり戸惑っていました。数か月が経ち、一度の再飲酒を経て、私には

ができました。
彼は、

の文言について話し合われたミーティングの記録の写しまで持っていました。そこには、個々の箇所で、なぜその言葉が選ばれたのかという思考の過程がはっきりと示されていました。それほどまでに、細部にこだわったものだったのです。

を心から "愛して" おり、「一語一語をよく見なさい」と私に言いました。また、第5章に出てくる“THOROUGHLY（徹底して）” という言葉の意味を、あるメンバーから説明された時には、「これは “本当に徹底して” という意味なんだ」と、はっきりとした言い方で “励まされる” ことにもなりました。
ですから……これが私の意見ですが、

は今のままであるべきであり、プレーン・ランゲージ版
ビッグブックビッグブック・AAの基本テキスト（書籍）
は、解説書や補助的な伴走役として使われるのがよいのではないかと思います。
余談ですが、私が「Jay Walking（信号無視をする人※）」という言葉の意味を知るまでには、"何年も" かかりました。これは世界共通の表現ではなく、アメリカ特有の言い回しです。最初に読んだときは、意味が分からず、そのまま読み飛ばしていました。
他の言語版では、この部分にどんな表現が使われているのかを知ることができたら、興味深いですね。

"He tells you he has decided to stop jay-walking for good, but ..."
絶対に信号を無視して道を横切るのはやめにしたと言った彼は ...
"He tries every known means to get the jay-walking idea out of his head."
彼はあらゆる方法で信号無視で道を横切ることを頭から追い払おうとする。
"We, who have been through the wringer, have to admit if we substituted alcoholism for jay-walking, ..."
そういうことを私たちはやってきた。この無謀横断をアルコールに置き換えてみれば...

Hi all,
My name is Gary and I am an alcoholic.
Thank you all for being there and for your comments on the Plain Language Big Book.
I remember my early days in AA, and I was quite honestly lost in some of the language of the big book . After a few months, and one relapse I got a sponsor who took me through it. He was a man who really was interested in how the BB was written and had copies of transcripts of the meetings where they discussed the wording in the big book which evidenced the thinking that went through the selection of individual words in individual passages. It was that detailed. So my sponsor LOVED the big book and told me to look at every word ... I was also "encouraged" to read the big book properly, word for word, when a member explained to me what THOROUGHLY meant in chapter 5. (It means thoroughly, he told me in no uncertain terms). So.. my opinion ... the Big book should be as is, and the plain language big book, used as an explainer/accompaniment etc.
As an aside it took me YEARS to find out what "Jay Walking" was.. Its an American term, not used worldwide.... and when I read it at first... I ignored it . It would be interesting to understand what other language versions use in it's place.
