私は、霊的目覚めと霊的体験を二つの異なる出来事として捉えることが、役に立つと感じています。どちらも、ステップ12以前の11のステップを生きて実践する中で起こるものです。
霊的体験について言えば……偶然の出来事を単なる幸運だと考える人もいるかもしれませんし、その人たちにとってはそれが正しいのかもしれません。しかし、私はそれを別の見方で捉えています。
霊的な目覚めは、徐々にゆっくりと訪れてきました……そしてステップ12の後半の「すべてのことにこの原理を実行しようと努力した。」という部分について言えば、それは他の人に対しても自分自身に対しても、後悔しないような生き方をすることだと思っています。
だから、ステップ12を実践する (メッセージを伝える) 余地は、常にあるのです。
私はこれまでに、数多くの霊的な体験をしてきました。たとえば駐車スペースがちょうど空いたり、思いがけず友人に出会ったり、あるいは、今すぐ死んだとしてもそれでいいのだと思えるような感覚になったりすることです。
特に鮮明に覚えている霊的な体験が二つあります。ある日の午後、まだソーバーになる前のことですが、私は実際に、キリストが寝室の窓をのぞき込み、その後、空へ飛び去っていくのを目にしたのです。
二つ目は……ソーバーになって一年ほど経った頃のことです。裏庭を行ったり来たりしながら、私は声に出して「これから私は何をすればいいのですか？」と問いかけました。すると、「何もしなくていい」という声が聞こえたのです。それだけでした……ただ一言だけでした。
なのでベス、霊的目覚めのテーマを探求する機会を与えてくれて、ありがとう。

Thank you, Beth, for bringing Step 12 to the table and for your share about it.
Spiritual awakening…
“Having had a spiritual awakening as a result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to alcoholics, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.”
I find it helpful to see spiritual awakening and spiritual experience as two different happenings. Both happen from living the previous 11 steps.
As for spiritual experiences… some people might think of coincidences as pure luck, and that might be true for them, but I view it otherwise.
Spiritual awakening has come gradually… and I must say the latter part—principles in all our affairs—to live life in a way that does not create regrets for others or myself.
So, there is always room for implementing Step 12.
I have had many spiritual experiences… a parking space opens up, or unexpectedly seeing a friend, or the feeling that if I died at that very moment, everything would be okay.
Two spiritual experiences are vividly memorable. One afternoon, before I was sober, I actually saw Christ looking in the bedroom window and then flying away.
The second… when I was a year or so sober, pacing in the backyard and asking the question out loud, “What do I do now?” I heard a voice say, “Nothing.” That was all… just one word.
So thank you, Beth, for giving the opportunity to explore your spiritual awakening topic.
