今日は伝統12について話したいと思います。「無名であることは、私たちの伝統全体の霊的な基礎である。それは各個人よりも原理を優先すべきことを、つねに私たちに思い起こさせるものである。」
私はAAミーティングに38年間、定期的に参加してきました。主に故郷のモントリオールですが、旅行をするときには海外でも参加しています。
この街ではたくさんのフェスティバルが開かれます。音楽フェスティバルや映画祭などです。ご存じのように、ミュージシャンや俳優の中にも、男女を問わず回復しているアルコホーリクがいます。彼らも、旅をするときには私と同じことをします。滞在しているホテルの近くでAAミーティングを探すのです。
ですから、たとえばモントリオールで国際ジャズフェスティバルが開かれている時期には、ダウンタウンのミーティングに有名人が参加しているのを見かけても不思議ではありません。
しかし、彼らは自分の芸術的な才能や名前を誇示するためにその場にいるわけではありません。彼らがそこにいる理由は、私たちがミーティングに参加する理由と同じです。自分がアルコールに対して無力であることに向き合い、今日一日ソーバーでいるためです。
私は、そうした有名人の名前を決して口にしません。他のAAメンバーにさえ言いません。なぜ私が「誰それが昼のミーティングに来ていた」などと、明かす必要があるでしょうか。その人の名声の一部を自分も浴びたいからでしょうか。
「誰それ」の隣に座って握手をした、それだけで自分まで有名になれると期待しているからでしょうか。
では、アノミニティ（無名性の原理）はどうなるのでしょう。私は、これは神聖なものだと思っています。そして、謙虚さを実践するための一つの方法でもあります。

Greetings to every member of the ESH list. Thank you for the topic Laurie. I'm a recovered alcoholic and my name is Robert.
I wish to talk of Tradition Twelve "Anonymity is the spiritual foundation of all our traditions, ever reminding us to place principles before personalities."
I've been attending AA meetings regularly for 38 years, mostly in my home town, Montreal, but also abroad when I travel.
There are many festivals in this city, music festivals and film festivals. As you know there are musicians and actors, both male and female, who are alcoholics in recovery. They do the same thing I do when they travel, they look for an AA meeting near the hotel where they are staying.
So at the time of the International Jazz Festival in Montreal, for instance, it's not surprising to see a famous personality attending one of the downtown meetings.
But they're not in the room to flaunt their artistic talents and their names; they are there for the same reason the rest of us attend the meeting, to help with their own powerlessness over alcohol and to stay sober one more day.
I never mention the names of these personalities, not even to other AA members. Why would I reveal that so-and-so was at my lunchtime meeting? So that some of their glory would shine on me?
In the hope that I would become famous myself because I sat next to so-and-so and we shook hands?
What about the principle of anonymity? I think this is sacred and it's a way for me to practice humility.
