私は伝統1を選んで分かち合いをします。「伝統１（長文のもの）：各メンバーは、アルコホーリクス・アノニマスという大きな全体の一部である。AAが生き長らえなければ、私たちの多くが確実に生命を失うことになるだろう。したがって私たちの全体の福利がまず優先される。しかし個人の福利がすぐその後に続く。」
この四節から成る文章は、酔っぱらい、あるいは酔っぱらいの集まりが書いたに違いない、と思わずにはいられません。
この合衆国において、多様な人間たちが大きな集団として一致団結することは、ほとんど不可能か、少なくとも起こりそうにないことです。しかしAAでは、最初の一杯をもう二度と飲まないという目標のもと、
ハイヤー・パワー（HP=ハイヤーパワー）神、または高次の力、自分を超えた大きな力。意志と生き方をゆだねる対象。
の助けを借りながら、四分の三世紀ものあいだ共に、あるいは一人でも、今日一日を生きることで結束し続けてきました。
伝統1のこの一文を振り返ると認めざるを得無いのですが、AAの中には、
ビッグブックビッグブック・AAの基本テキスト（書籍）
や
12のステップ12ステッププログラム、回復のため原理、AAの基本プログラム。
などに書かれていることよりも、自分のほうがずっと正しい答えを知っていると思っているような、いわばうなずき人形 (bobble heads) のような知ったかぶりの人がいるものです。私はそんな人に一人だけ会ったことがありますが、その人はもう、私を「教え導く」ためにここにいるわけではありません。（ありがとう、ガス※1）
私の場合は、それでうまくいっています。

I choose Tradition One: "Each member of Alcoholics Anonymous is but a small part of a great whole. AA must continue to live or most of us will surely die. Hence our common welfare comes first. But individual welfare follows close afterward."
You just have to know a drunk or group of drunks authored those four sentences.
Unity of diverse human beings in these United States is hardly possible or likely in a large group, but in AA we have continued to be united for three-quarters of a century in our aim to not take that first drink-ever again-one day at a time, together or alone, with the help of a higher power.
With the preceding sentence in the rearview mirror, I must admit there are some bobble heads in AA that I have not often met, who think they know the answers far better than can be found in the twelve steps or other written material in our Big Book. I have met one such individual, but he no longer is around to "teach" me. (Thank Gus).
And that's the way it works for me.
