Hi, everyone. My name is Dave and I am an alcoholic. Thanks for a great
topic and lead, Jack. And thanks for sharing this path with me and soooo
many others over 51 years of continuous sobriety. Welcome to all and
congrats to AA (and HP!) for all the milestones we celebrate this week,
including Jack’s significant figure. The program works!
God (and the program we all share) knows what he’s doing. I don’t. As
Jack said (and I love this!), my ego is not my amigo. After my eventual
flame out on booze and self-will, I opted for the novel approach of
following directions. I was only aiming to stop drinking, but kept
following directions. Over time and repeated application of the program,
I have grown calmer (most of the time), more peaceful (most of the
time), more thoughtful (most of the time). I didn’t cause any of that,
but I have cooperated with the process. Mostly because I saw it work so
well for you guys. The Big Book says we are to practice these principles
in all our affairs. It turns out, that extra effort seems to bring the
greatest growth.
