Good morning - my name is Ellen and I am an alcoholic. I am very grateful to be sober and alive, today.
"What does AA (and the third tradition in particular) mean to you? What is the core of the program of recovery to you? Great questions, Mark... thank you."
For me, AA is a way of life... all combined. It is structure, foundation, suggested guidelines for making spiritual progress which in turn creates a far better life than the one I had while drinking. AA gave me permission to journey down various spiritual paths, of which, I am still traveling and exploring. The core of the program for this alcoholic is finding that power greater than myself because I could not stop drinking on my own. All the love in this human world was not enough to stop my drinking. I found a God-of-my-understanding in these rooms. The steps and traditions help to keep me connected to this Higher Power. As I stay sober and continue to make spiritual progress, my prayer is that I can carry this same message of hope to others who still struggle with their alcoholism, show them the love and tolerance that has been shown to me, while they too find their higher power, whoever and whatever that may be. As our BB says, 'there is a solution'...
