ソブラエティ神様・ハイヤーパワーとつながり、お酒を飲まない生活
（飲まない生き方）を続けるための鍵です。
私は、個人主義が評価される文化や環境の中で育ちました。私は、人を裁き、人と較べることを学びました。相手が自分より優れているか、あるいは自分より劣っているかのどちらかであって、自分と同じ存在だとは決して考えませんでした。私はチームの一員となるために、良い成績を取るために、そして生活の糧を得るために、相手と競争しなければなりませんでした。
私は人生のほとんどの期間、他の人々や神から意識的に距離を置いた状態で生きていました。なので飲んでいた最後の頃には、ほぼ完全に孤立した状態に陥ったことは、驚くことではありません。灯りを落としたアパートの中で、来る日も来る日も、ただ一人で酒を飲んでいました。自分の人生に関わってくる人が誰もいないことを、どれほど楽だと思っていたか覚えています。私の飲酒について口出しする人もいない。仕事を探していないことについて、あれこれ責めたり小言を言ったりする人もいない。今となっては、そんなことを考えていた当時の自分を思い出すと、なんと悲しいことだろうと思います。

であることが大好きです。自分一人では
ソブラエティ神様・ハイヤーパワーとつながり、お酒を飲まない生活
を続けることができません。しかし、「私たち (We)」ならできます。ミーティングで、あるいは別のアルコホーリクと一対一で、自分の中で起きていることを正直に分かち合うとき、私は「問題そのもの」から「解決策」へ向かうことができ、その結果として成長することができます。

Hi everyone, Jeff, alcoholic,
I like the expression, “God is not in me or in you, but at the place where we meet.” In my experience, connecting and caring with other alcoholics is the key for successful sobriety.
I came from a culture and upbringing that rewarded individuality. I learned to judge and compare. You are either better than me or worse than me, but never the same as me. I had to compete against you to make the team, to make the grade and to make a living.
I lived in conscious separation from other people and God for most of my life. It’s no surprise that during the last days of my drinking I ended up in almost total isolation -- drinking all alone in my darkened apartment day after day. I remember thinking how good it was that no one else was in my life. No one to hassle me about my drinking or give me any crap about not looking for work. How sad it is for me to recall these thoughts today.
I love that Alcoholics Anonymous is a “We” program. I can’t stay sober, but “we” can. When I share honestly about what’s going on at a meeting or one-on-one with another alcoholic, I move from the problem to the solution and grow as a result.
