になったばかりの頃は、ここシカゴで毎週ダンスパーティーが開かれていて、本当に最高でした。私は夢中になって踊りました。その頃には友達もできて、ミーティング以外でもみんなでいろいろなことをして過ごしました。
今でもミーティングでは、必ず何か笑えることがあります。

になって間もない頃、
スポンサーAAプログラムなどを指導してくれる先輩役のメンバー
と一緒にカナダへ行ったことを覚えています。帰りに国境の税関で、係官が私を見ました。私が運転していたわけでもないのに、「どこから来ましたか？」と聞かれたのです。私は何を聞かれているのかわからず、不思議そうな顔で「カナダから来ました」と答えました。
たぶん、係官が聞きたかったのは「カナダのどの州から来たのですか？」ということだったのでしょう。その話をイヴォンヌといつも笑い話にしていました。
そして、その話にはさらに続きがあります。今度はカナダへ入国するときのことです。税関の係官がまた私を見て、私が運転していたわけでもないのに、「銃や薬物は持っていますか？」と聞きました。私は仲間のほうを見て、「一体何ごと？（※なぜ私に聞くの？私が怪しまれているの？）」と言いました。
こういう出来事は、今になって振り返ると、思わず大笑いできる楽しい思い出です。

Thanks. Dorothy for getting us started this week. And I'm no spring chicken any more either. If it wasn't for people in AA showing me the good times, I don't know if I would have made it this far.
Early on, they had dances here in Chicago every week, and they were a blast. I danced my little heart out. Early on I made friends, and we'd all do things together besides meetings.
Even today, at a meeting, we always find something to laugh at.
Early on I remember my sponsor and I going to Canada, and on the way back the customs people looked at me. I wasn't even driving, and they asked me where I was coming from. I looked at him very confused and said, "I'm coming from Canada."
Well, I guess he meant which province. But Yvonne and I always laughed about that.
And to top that, going into Canada, the customs agent looked at me again. I wasn't driving, and he asked me if I had any guns or drugs. I looked at my friend and said, "What the heck?"
Just a few things to look back on and get a good laugh about.
