Hi, everyone. George, a drunk. Thank you, Dorothy, for chairing and choosing Rule #62 as our subject matter this week.
We drunks purchased an old church building forty-odd years ago from the Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, Players Group who put on Broadway and similar dramas throughout the year. Initially, we held nightly and weekday AA meetings in the old building's basement.
However, every time it rained, the floor was soon covered with water, sometimes a little, and at other times, more than a lot. We continued to put up with these acts of nature, of course, with plans of turning the upstairs area into our meeting room(s). Eventually, that is.
At one meeting downstairs, Jimbo, a regular, was missing. "Wonder if he's okay?" somebody questioned.
At the very moment the meeting was to begin, we heard Jimbo, coming down the stairs, shouting, "Are they biting yet?"
What a sight: In walked our group's clown, wearing green rubber waders and carrying a rod and reel. In addition, Jimbo's wicker basket creel hung from his right shoulder and was ensconced at his right side. Our temporarily missing member also wore his crumpled fishing hat with fishing lures and flies attached to hooks, hanging from it.
The rest of us burst out in laughter.
Rule sixty-two, Jim shouted, adding, "Ain't life grand?"
Life was certainly grand that night. And that's the way it works for me.
