Good Friday to my ESH friends.

Thanks so much, Laurie, for a very interesting topic this week. And hearty congrats on your sobriety milestone. We're all miracles... and I celebrate you!

I don't see myself as any kind of a statesman but just someone who has experience with being immersed in AA for a whole bunch of years.

I've moved a few times during the past 40 years and for a while after leaving my original home group I'd catch myself judging the way other groups "did it". After all, the Coral Springs Group had a reputation as being "the kosher group". Hopefully, that's not offensive.. but we were sticklers for the Traditions and maybe other neighboring groups were a bit more lax? Not sure... but I just remember feeling kinda good about the nickname.

I try to keep my opinions to myself, unless I'm asked. I can fall too easily into being judgemental. If I find myself comparing how one group does something differently, which way is "correct", etc. I can usually get to the place of realizing that what seemed to work for me/us in Coral Springs in 1986 (meeting formats, etc.) doesn't necessarily resonate with the logistics of where I am now. I'm not referring to the program, the Steps, Traditions or that important stuff. Hopefully, that will never change.

One area that I see myself trying to impart a strongly held belief (based on my own experiences) is with my 12 Step work with Online Intergroup. I still am partial to local, face to face meetings for newcomers. I remember how powerful it was for me to suit up and show up.. see the sincerity in others' eyes.. and all the hugs. There was/is a tangible power in the rooms for me. So, when people today are mostly interested in Zoom or online meetings, I still first steer them to the brick and mortar rooms. If asked, I also share how to connect with online meetings along with the caveat that if they don't realize the results they're hoping for, to please make the effort to go out to local meetings.

I think online meetings have their place - and I'm ever grateful for this online group!... it's more my instincts about newcomers. I know, too, I could just as easily be wrong. Whenever I share this it's inevitable I'll hear about so and so who got sober during "covid" only online. And that's great.

Enough from me..
Have a wonderful day, friends.

peace & love,
Dorothy
