Greetings All
Thank You Jan for leading us this week, for your topic, and to all who have contributed. I'm Tony, grateful to be here again with you.
Where do i start on this topic?
Well, i already have - in saying Thank You. But is it enough to say Thank You, or should i provide a list? Space and time doesn't permit this, right now.
I remember, from an early F2F meeting, Robin A saying that 'Gratitude is like peeing your pants - you get a momentary nice warm feeling, but then . . . . ?' It has to be followed by urgent action!
I have often said that i'm grateful to Dr Bob S and Bill W. The only way i can demonstrate this is by following the programme of recovery and carrying its message to others. So many people have improved my life, through their example. Doing what they did is only the beginning.
When i was at home i disrespected my parents by being ungrateful, at that time, for what they did for me, and the sacrifices they made to provide for me and my older brother. I repaid them by leaving home, then by leaving the country of my birth.
I was reminded of this through guilt from another AA, Molly, who said she had learned to want what she had, versus having what she wanted.
The desire for me to crave alcohol was removed sometime between phoning the AA area office (for the third time in four months) and attending my first AA meeting.
My behaviour to others has changed, through practising the principles of the programme and being of service to the God of my understanding and the people around me.
Thank you for reminding me that practice makes progress and the promises in each step are conditional on me taking my daily inventory and right action.
Peace and Serenity. Tony
