ESHExperience, Strength, and Hope -

ESHExperience, Strength, and Hope -

ESHExperience, Strength, and Hope -

ESHExperience, Strength, and Hope -

WELCOME TO THE ESH WEEKLY MEETING

The structure of an ESH meeting is that the chairperson selects a topic for the week and anyone in the group has the option to share on that topic or as an alternative, a member may share on the step or tradition correlating to the month of the year. For example - in November you may share on Step 11 or Tradition 11. We hope this recent change will encourage more participation.

Since ESH is an email-based group, a person who shares does not see the smile or nodding head that he/she does in other meeting formats.

Some of us provide that validation through an email response. In order to keep the postings to a minimum for the entire group, we do request that personal messages be sent directly to that person and not via the Group.

The ESH meeting will begin no earlier than Sunday morning any time after midnight EST and members are requested to post their shares no later than the following Saturday night at 11:59 PM EST. All members are encouraged to share their A.A. anniversary on their annual sobriety date. Tell the group what your life was like before AA, what happened, and what it's like today.

Also, please remember the cyber basket, as follows for your 7th Tradition Contributions:

Greetings members of the ESH list,

I'm an alcoholic and my name is Robert. In the Big Book, Chapter 11 entitled A Vision for You, we read, on page 152, that the new member who cannot picture his life without alcohol asks, "Am I to be consigned to a life where I shall be stupid, boring and glum...?" The book answers, "The most satisfactory years of your existence lie ahead."

Well, however exaggerated that affirmation first appeared to me when I quit drinking, that promise has come true for me. I jumped into AA with enthusiasm. I loved AA meetings and still do. In my first year, I attended two to three meetings *every day, *some in French, some in English. I was impressed by the sincerity and truthfulness of the members who shared. I laughed at the funny personal adventures told with candor and humility by sober alcoholics. Most importantly, I identified. At an AA meeting people don't laugh *at* the speakers, they laugh *with* them.

I also learned to laugh at myself instead of being offended when my wife and children were pointing out a ridiculous and laughable behaviour of mine. I now feel I am really a part of the family I came very close to losing. I have learned to be present and attentive to them, instead of leaving every evening to go out drinking in bars.

Not only that, but since I stopped drinking I, who had always dreamed of getting on stage, have had the occasion to read my poems publicly here in Montreal and at venues outside the city, even in poetry festivals in France. I made a CD of some of my talking blues poems with musicians accompanying me. I have also written, directed and produced six short video poems that have been screened internationally at film festivals. In addition I have self published two books of poetry which I do not sell, but give to friends. So the most satisfactory years of my existence have truly been since I stopped drinking and joined AA.

What about you? How has the quality of your life changed since you got sober? Have you "become happy, respected, and useful once more" as it says on page 153?

Looking forward to reading your shares,

Robert

P.S. If you prefer, you can share instead on Step 9 or Tradition 9 as they apply in your life today.
